How we work.

“Once I started to step through the ABC model with exercises and questions set as homework, it all started to fall into place and make sense.”

-D.C.

We believe in adapting to you and working in a way that helps you to achieve the changes you want to make. It's important that you feel empowered, supported and enabled throughout the therapy.

Most people who are looking for Counselling/Psychotherapy do not know exactly what it is they need.  They just know they need some help.  Our approach at Enhance Mindset is both adaptive and solution orientated and works best for people who want to change how they are feeling, thinking and behaving and find a happier and healthier way to live their life, for the long term.

To work with us, all you need is a desire to change how you are feeling, thinking, coping or behaving, even if that feels impossible right now.  We work with people who have specific mental health disorders, for example OCD, Panic Disorder and Depression to name but a few. However, you don’t have to have a specific diagnosis in order to benefit from CBT and other forms of psychotherapy. You may simply feel stuck in a destructive state of emotion, or maybe feel low self-confidence is preventing you from achieving what you want from life.

We believe in adapting to you and working in a way that helps you to achieve the changes you want to make.  We are trained in CBT but also bring in a range of other psychotherapy models including Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing which has proven to be highly effective when working with trauma and PTSD). During an initial consultation we will identify how best to work together by being very transparent about how CBT and other counselling approaches work.  It's important that you feel empowered, supported and enabled throughout the therapy.

For parents seeking help for their child, we know that children and teenagers do not always see that there is a healthier and happier way to be when they are struggling.  In such cases we would initially work with your child to develop a motivation to change, and then identify the psychotherapy approach that will be the most beneficial.

What is CBT and how does it work?

CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and is a talking therapy which is more structured than traditional counselling approaches.  Like traditional counselling, CBT provides a safe, confidential and compassionate space for you to explore emotional issues,  however it also provides a framework to work through problems and change the aspects of your life that you are in control of.  In CBT we look at how problems in our lives are maintained by what we believe about ourselves, others and/or the world around us.  We start by identifying how these unhelpful beliefs were created, how they are maintained and how they can impact negatively on life today.  The work then focuses on changing those unhelpful core beliefs, equipping you with tools and strategies, so that you can change the way you feel, think and act, both now and in the future.

Effectiveness.

CBT is supported by clinical research and is used extensively by the NHS and recommended by NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) for a range of conditions from Anxiety disorders and Depression, to Insomnia and IBS amongst others.  Studies have shown that CBT helps around 70-80% of people.

CBT also benefits anyone who is feeling stuck and struggling with their emotions, for example feeling stressed, a lack of self-confidence or motivation or feeling overwhelmed by thoughts and emotions.  Learning CBT tools, strategies and techniques can help you to build a healthier and more resilient mindset before emotional problems set in.
