Adolescents.

β€œThe change in our daughter has been amazing. She is aware of not feeding her anxiety monster and has found a real congruence in herself.”

- G.R.

Our psychotherapists have had specific training to work with adolescents (10-19 years). We help adolescents develop a healthier and more resilient mindset to cope with a range of issues experienced in this transitioning phase of life.

Adolescents (10-19 years).

Being an adolescent has its own specific developmental challenges with several life transitions to navigate through, from moving to new schools, coping with loss or family dynamic changes, to becoming an independent adult.

During adolescent years, the brain undergoes extensive remodelling which drives a growth towards independence and an urge to experiment and explore boundaries. In the context of still incomplete inhibitory systems and a heightened sensitivity to rewards (such as social acceptance), this can mean risk-taking or impulsive behaviour in some.

Here are some of the issues we help adolescents to work through:

-        Anxiety

-        Low self-worth and self-damning

-        Exam anxiety

-        Eating disorders

-        Addictive behaviours

-        Self-harming to cope with emotional pain

-        Difficulties forming friendships

-        Loneliness and isolating behaviours

-        Anger

-        Sense of self, identity and purpose

Building a strong, trusting relationship is the starting point. From there we bring in a range of Cognitive behavioural approaches in our therapy to help adolescents develop a healthier and more resilient mindset to get them through this challenging time and equip them for the future.
